Grace and Our Helplessness

“It is rare that Christians earnestly seek the Lord’s face when things are going swimmingly, when material blessings abound and we seem to be protected from the vicissitudes faced by others.  But in the blackness of discouragement, when we are harassed and downcast, we may indeed turn to the Lord and acknowledge our helplessness apart from his grace; we may do so knowing that God is a compassionate God and that Jesus’ compassion was particularly directed toward the harassed and the helpless.” ~D.A. Carson

Hey, Ken, glad to be getting your blog. I’m enjoying a book again that’s been sitting on my shelf awhile and wanted to pass it along. A Cup of Coffee at the Soul Cafe by Leonard Sweet. He’s got a string of other books that sound very tempting. I’m going to have to check them out. http://www.leonardsweet.com/

Thanks Barb. Glad you stopped by too. I’ll have to check out Sweet’s site and the book you mention. I really dig a piece he did with Frank Viola a couple years back called “The Jesus Manifesto” (which you’ll see a plug here on my blog on the right column if you scroll down).

      I appreciate the recommendation.
